May 2007 - Cycle Ride - Lots of thanks!!!!!
This sponsored event was organised by Mark Griffiths, who has spent time with some of our projects in North India. The event bought a group together to raise funds for CHILD's Trust.
This bold group of intrepid cyclists headed for the Coast to Coast (C2C) mountain bike trail on 18 May from Whitehaven to Newcastle, some 142 miles on and off road for three days.
Whilst exercise and achievement were high on the list of priorities so was raising lots of hard earned cash from generous donors with tax back from our lovely Chancellor of the Exchequer to help CHILDS's Trust.
Great Big Thanks go to Mark and the team for taking on the challenge, conquering the trail and raising funds for CHILD's Trust projects in the process. The total amount raised was £2,500 - thanks for all your support - cyclists, supporters and donors!
Rider Report
Six riders set off on a cold and blowy morning from the slipway at Whitehaven Harbour on the first leg of our coast to coast adventure, I think that is what made it fun, everyone approached the trip as an adventure.
Day One Whitehaven to Penrith 54.1 miles, in the morning it rained, in fact it rained so hard we all got soaked through to our skin, but after some bike repair's in Keswick it was on to Penrith.
Day Two Penrith to Eastgate 42.7 miles, this was the climbing day we knew that, but I'm not sure we knew how much up and down we would be doing. (10,000 feet over the three days), more bike repairs at the end of this day, thanks to the support team who were fantastic.
Day Three Eastgate to Tynemouth 46.3 miles, this was the fun day one hard climb in the morning then mostly downhill all the way to Gateshead, through Newcastle and on to the finish, we started on Friday in the rain but finished on Sunday in the sunshine feeling we had enjoyed fellowship with each other, been reminded of God's creation of the beautiful countryside and whist getting fitter we had raised money for a great charity and cause.
Support Team was Jean Griffiths and Neal Malvern.
The riders (heroesed) were Mark Griffiths, Paul Griffiths, Jo Coulson, Jo Wilson, Leight Martin and Simon Lummis.
